How the age check works

Kerala PSC gives the age limit as a range of birth dates, for example “18–36: only candidates born between 02.01.1989 and 01.01.2007 (both dates included)”. Ages are counted on 1 January of the recruitment year, so an upper age of 36 in 2025 means you must be born on or after 2 January 1989. Relaxations move that earliest date back.

OBC+3 yearsEzhava, Muslim, LC/AI, Viswakarma and other backward communities
SC / ST+5 yearsScheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
Differently abled+15 yearsAdded on top of the community relaxation
Ex-servicemenup to +5The length of military service

With relaxations, the upper age cannot go beyond 50.

Worked examples

For a 2025 post with the range 18–36 (born 02.01.1989 – 01.01.2007).

  • EligibleGeneral, born 15 Jun 1995Inside 02.01.1989 – 01.01.2007, age 29 on 1 Jan 2025
  • EligibleOBC, born 10 Mar 1987Two years too old for the general range, but OBC +3 moves the earliest date to 02.01.1986
  • Not eligibleSC, born 20 Aug 1983SC +5 moves the earliest date to 02.01.1984, still after the birth date (age 41)

What the checker does not decide

Some notifications say relaxations do not apply, and the checker then uses the range as printed. By-transfer posts, special recruitments, NCA notifications and rules for widows are flagged with “Check the notification” instead of a verdict. The qualification guide compares levels only, not subjects. Always confirm in the official notification before you apply.
